Wendigo is one of the creatures in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy that live on Maklu IV, although it originated on Earth. They are not a species, but humanoids transformed by a curse transmitted via their bites.

The Wendigo may seem perfectly suited for Maklu IV's frigid climate, but they're a recent, chaotic addition to the planet's ecosystem. The beasts are thought to be Terran, likely brought aboard one of the many crashed ships that dot the planet's surface. The Wendigo have grown in numbers rapidly, seemingly reproducing through a transformational bite. Nova Corps recently interviewed a captured poacher who claims his entire crew was ambushed, bitten, and transformed overnight. They now wander the frozen forests as Wendigo themselves, driven by a need to consume the flesh of other humanoids.
The beasts are massive, bipedal creatures covered in shaggy white fur with a maw full of serrating fangs, razor-sharp claws, and a long tail for balance as they stalk high above in the frozen trees. They are capable of surprisingly silent movement, although they often announce their presence by screaming out a single word—WENDIGO.
It's unknown how the expanding Wendigo tribe will fair against Maklu's awesome predators, but at the rate they are multiplying, they may soon have the numbers to stand a chance.
