Throg is a minor character in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. An amphibian hero and wielder of the mighty Frogjolnir, he is one of the many exhibits in the Collector's Emporium of Taneleer Tivan.

Background

Little is known about Throg's past, only that he is a frog who gained powers identical to that of Thor himself—the Asgardian God of Thunder—when a small piece was chipped off of Mjolnir by Thor's goat. Wielding Frogjolnir as his weapon, Throg became one of several Gods of Thunder.

At some point, Throg is said to have decimated an entire Badoon fleet with only one throw of his mighty hammer Frogjolnir before being captured. However, the Collector bailed Throg out of prison and made him a part of his private collection, trapping him in a protective pocket reality created by the Cosmic Cube as a display in his emporium.

Personality

It is unknown what Thog's personality is like. However, much like Mjolnir, Frogjolnir can only be lifted by those worthy of Thor's powers, attesting for Throg's strength of character. He is also described as a "tiny fellow [who] packs quite a punch, matched only by his thunderous croak".

Gameplay

Throg appears during Chapter 6: Between a Rock and a Hard Place as a display in the Collector's Emporium, having a description written by Tivan himself. He is also mentioned in the description for Frogjolnir.

THROG, FROG OF THUNDER

You might think this is the God of Thunder transformed into a frog. It is actually a frog transformed into the God of Thunder. One of several Gods of Thunder, to be precise. This tiny fellow packs quite a punch, matched only by his thunderous croak. Captured after decimating an entire Badoon fleet with only one throw of his mighty hammer, Frogjolnir, I selflessly bailed him out of prison and found him a permanent home here in my collection. If he tells you otherwise, do not listen. Asgardians are known for their devilish pranks.

Trivia

• In the comics, Throg is actually an alias for Simon Walterson, also known as "Puddlegulp", a human cursed into becoming a frog by a mystic. His origin was revealed in Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers #1 (2009). Whether or not this applies to this continuity is unknown.
• During development, the team created a list of easter eggs and allusions they wanted to see in the game, later modified by Marvel for an 'approved' list of potential references. All objects in the Emporium are from that list. Throg was apparently a suggestion from one of the devs, and was added because it's funny. Bruno Gauthier-Leblanc didn't know about Throg at first, but dived into the lore a little and discovered there's a big fanbase for the character.
