The Chitauri began their wave of slaughter at the start of the Galactic War by destroying the Nova Corps host world, Xandar. With Nova Corps nearly eradicated, the galaxy was left without its primary peace-keeping force. Only one small squadron of Nova Centurions remained, led by Richard Rider. The Xandarian Worldmind tried to recall them, determined to protect their repository of Xandarian history and culture. But Rider defied them and assembled a Resistance force to take the fight right to the Chitauri.
With the Worldmind loudly protesting inside his helmet, Rider's resistance toured the bombed worlds and promised justice to their broken people. With every stop, his forces grew. The Resistance fleet became a parade of various races and ships all flying the same flag — a Nova Corps symbol surrounded by flames. Little by little, they took back worlds, destroying Chitauri raiders along the way. Rider's entourage soon included most of the Katathian defense force, the Centaurian Shadows, the Rigellian Thinker Fleet, and even Gamora Zen-Whoberi, daughter of Thanos.
Trivia[]
- Coincidentally or not, the fleet shares its name with an underground group supported by the original iteration of the Guardians of the Galaxy, from Marvel Two-In-One #5 (1974).
