Prologue: Meredith/Script

The following is a verbal transcript from the Prologue of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Opening

(Space Rider album plays in the background. As Peter puts down the lyrics foldout, Meredith enters.)
Meredith: (Sits on bed.) Hey birthday boy! No wonder you couldn't hear me! Is that your new tape? (Peter gives her the foldout. She reads.) "Star-Lord"... Who's the guy with the scary eyes?
Peter: He doesn't have a name. He's one of the Space Riders. And he's not scary, he's cool.
Meredith: Your space rider's certainly got his hands full. (Puts on his headphones and listens to the song.) Pretty far out.
Peter: Nobody says "far out" any more, ma.
Meredith: (Engrossed in music.) [chuckles]
Peter: Ma! (She takes off the headphones.) Nobody says "far out" any more.
Meredith: Oh, well your mom does. Maybe we should see if we can get tickets to see them live.
Peter: Really?!
Meredith: Your mom may not look it, but I was quite the rocker when I was your age. Your father and I would just lie on the hood of my old Chevy and listen to Black Sabbath--
Peter: You liked Black Sabbath?!
Meredith: Like I said! Your mom is cooler than you think. We'd look up at the stars and he'd tell me all about the places he'd been...
Peter: Mom...?
Meredith: How about some cake, huh?
Peter: Yeah. I'll be up in a sec.
Meredith: You said that fifteen minutes ago. If you don't hurry I'm going to eat that whole cake myself.
Peter: No you wouldn't.
Meredith: Yes, I would. (Ruffles his hair.)
Peter: Hey, watch the hair!
Meredith: [chuckles] (Stands up and walks towards exit.) Ouch! Peter, (Grabs Chewbacca Toy.) we've talked about you leaving your toys on the floor.
Peter: It's not a toy, it's an action figure.
Meredith: More like an action landmine. (Imitates Yoda.) Stab your foot, I will!
Peter: He doesn't even... nevermind.
Meredith: (Throws Chewie to him..) Thirteen whole years. Look at you. Where does the time go?
Peter: I'll be up in a sec. I promise.
Meredith: Right. (Leaves, closing the door. Peter remains in bed, listening to his cassette.)

(Grabs Rolling Stones magazine) Hope Mom wasn't joking about seeing Star-Lord. Yeah, if they ever decide to play out here in the boonies.
(Space Exploration Academy poster) Oh man, traveling through space must be amazing.
(The Lost Starwalker poster) The final battle was awesome! Looked like the heroes were done for, but they pulled it off!
(Video Game Power magazine with Super Mech 3 cover) Oh man, I can't wait to play this. Maybe I can convince Andy to buy it with his paper route money.
(Marvel Comics' Star-Lord: Space Rider) This'll be worth hundreds of dollars some day!
(ColecoVision console and high-score sheet) I gotta beat Janey's high score. This is embarrassing.
(Set of five D&D dice) Three natural ones in a row last game... Some bard I turned out to be.
(FurThings poster) It's pretty crazy that all that destruction started from one little mistake.
(Plays "Where Eagles Dare" on Gibson Flying V guitar) Need to build up my calluses.
(Baseball card collection) Keep hitting those dingers George, and you'll make it in the Hall of Fame for sure.
(Nukegame poster) The movie was okay, but the soundtrack really kicked butt!
(Deathtrap Dungeon gamebook) Fingers are still cramped from trying to bookmark pages. I know that's not how you're supposed to play, but I'm tired of dying everywhere.
(Grabs Rubic's Cube) Might as well just peel the stickers off and put them in the right spot...
(Tron poster) Love to be able to ride one of those light cycles. [motorcycle noise]
(Grabs Steve Harris wristband) Can't believe I caught this. That Maiden show was awesome!
