Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Wiki

Nova Corps is an interstellar peacekeeping force that originated from Xandar and is commanded by the Xandarian Worldmind, with a designated Nova Prime as their acting leader. They are a major organization in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.

Background[]

A long time ago, Xandarians discovered the Nova Force and created the Worldmind supercomputer, which would come to serve as Xandar's head of state. At an unknown point in time, they also founded the Nova Corps, which ended as an intergalactic peacekeeping militia. Although the organization was never granted authority by the countless worlds under their watch, it was accepted as a galactic defense force, especially during large scale conflicts.

Around 7786, this very role singled out Xandar as a target of the Chitauri Empire—having allied with the warlord Thanos—for an unprovoked, surprise attack that kicked off the Galactic War. Prime Commandant Rhomann Dey called upon the Xandarian StarCorps fleet to create a blockade against the invading Chitauri forces. While the blockade was instrumental to the evacuation of Xandar, only a single, small squadron of Nova Centurions led by Richard Rider survived the encounter. He went onto founding the Resistance.

NOVA CORPS

Nova Corps is an interstellar peacekeeping militia commanded by the collective intelligence of the Xandarian Worldmind. Through the Worldmind, Nova Corpsmen can use the power of the Nova Force to wield impressive weaponry and travel through space. Though never granted authority by the countless worlds under their watch, Nova Corps is mostly accepted as a galactic defense force, especially during large scale conflicts.

Nova Corps was nearly wiped out at the start of the Galactic War, when the Chitauri attacked Xandar and the Corps sacrificed themselves to allow evacuation. Now in the process of rebuilding and restoring galactic order, the Corps finds itself stretched thin and vulnerable, something the Worldmind will not admit. Criminal elements are thriving with the reduced scrutiny, but Nova Corps has recently been making examples of the ones they do catch. As New Xandar nears completion, the Nova Corps is once again a galactic force to be taken seriously.

  • According to Frédéric Bennett, the Nova Centurion's shoulder blades are a tribute to the 1995 anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion.[2]
