J'Son is a mentioned-only character in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. The last known king of the Spartoi Empire, he once was stranded on Earth where he became the lover of Meredith Quill and the father of Peter Quill.

Background

Presumably born on the planet Spartax, J'Son belonged to the Spartoi Royal Family, and eventually became the planet's ruler. As Emperor, he had a god-like status among his people; at his command, the entire empire would move. He also inherited the last pair of Element Guns.

At a time when his people were at war, for unknown reasons J'Son was flying over Earth when his craft crash-landed in Missouri. Wounded and finding himself deep in the woods, J'Son met a human farmer and markswoman called Meredith Quill, who offered him aid and nursed him back to health. During his stay, J'Son and Meredith would often listen to Black Sabbath lying on the hood of her old Chevy, and she would look up at the stars while J'Son told her all about the places he'd been. It wasn't long before the two ended up romantically entwined.

Nevertheless, their romance was not to last. Although she was pregnant, J'Son couldn't stay on Earth with her, or the war would follow him to Earth; so, he left to protect Meredith and their unborn son Peter. Before his departure and presumed return to Spartax, he left the Element Guns as Peter's "birthright". However, thirteen years after J'Son left Earth, the Chitauri Empire—in preparation for the upcoming war—sent soldiers to kidnap Peter and imprison him on Chitauri Prime, killing Meredith, and use him as leverage. This kept J'Son, and subsequently the Empire, inert long enough for the Chitauri to destroy Spartax's communications and military capabilities, leaving the rest of the empire in the dark.

Post-war, J'Son's current status is unknown. Peter, having escaped from prison and joined the Ravagers, went to Spartax to see him, but with the Empire in political shambles, or because of bureaucracy, they never saw each other, leading Peter to assume J'Son didn't want him.

Personality

Very little is known about J'Son, but according to Meredith, he is supposed to be a great leader. Meredith also believed that, seeing the way the young Peter looked after people, Peter was going to be just like J'Son.

Gameplay

J'Son does not appear in-game, and is only mentioned in passing during Peter's Guardian Collectible conversations for the Chitauri Sear-Cuffs and Galactic War Commendation.
