Huddle

The team huddled together.

The Huddle is a combat mechanic in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy in which Peter Quill rallies the Guardians whenever they have their backs to the wall, and uses his cassette player to listen to a mixtape of his favorite songs from the 1980s.

Overview

On bottom right corner of the screen, next to team portraits during combat, the Huddle Gauge can be found. Shaped like a angle bracket, it builds up over time (it fills every time the player uses a Guardian ability) and, once full, the wheel momentarily turns into a "Huddle Ready!" notice depicting Star-Lord's cassette player. The player can press L1 + R1 (PlayStation), or LB + RB (Xbox), or R (PC) to activate a Huddle.

During a Huddle, the player is taken out of the battle temporarily, as Drax, Gamora, Rocket and Groot come running towards Peter to say how they feel—ranging from whining, grumbling or snapping at each other to overconfident claims—regarding the current battle before leaping back into the fray. As they speak, the most important key words will appear, faded on the background, as clues for the player, who must choose the correct response.

Regardless of whether the player wins, loses, or says nothing, all Guardians will immediately be resurrected, and a random song will play. There are two outcomes to each Huddle. If the player guess correctly, the whole team will receive a boost to damage, wheareas answering incorrectly means only Peter gets the bonus to damage. The general rule is: If the team seems down, Peter must motivate them; if they appear cocky, ground them; and if they are too excited, bring them back to reality.
