Galactic Compendium

The Galactic Compendium is an in-game database that tracks the lore of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. Players who collect 65% of the entries receive the "Lore Hoarder" achievement.

Overview[]

The Galactic Compendium is an illustrated encyclopedia whose entries are unlocked as the story progresses. It gives an out-of-universe description and, in the case of characters, some details about their origin in comics or films. The only exception are Archives (holographic messages stored in dark grey round boxcases, usually found on the ground or on desks), which are in-universe texts about simple incidents and people's thoughts, giving extra lore about this continuity.^[1]

Unread entries are shown with a question mark icon. Of the six categories, three categories—Characters, Creatures, and Items—have all possible entries visible from the beginning, with the subjects being shown as silhouettes in locked entries. The other three categories—Factions, Places, and Archives—are displayed as lists and won't show entries unless the player finds them. Unlocked entries carry over to a New Game Plus.^[2]

An entry will be unlocked whenever the player physically encounters the subject in question. E.g. Raker's entry doesn't become available, despite being present in Chapter 2, until his proper introduction to the Guardians at the end of Chapter 7. In the case of Guardian Collectible items (which are fifteen in total and make up about half of the Items category), their entries aren't unlocked until after Star-Lord has the conversation they trigger on the Milano.
