Gameplay[]
At the beginning of the game, Peter is able to shoot them but without further special effects. However, upon finding a Workbench in Chapter 1: A Risky Gamble, they can be upgraded via Perks with Rocket's help (with Rapid Reload being crafted by default, there are other four Perks available for them).
Peter learns to wield four types of Element Shots as the story progresses. Depending on the chosen element, the guns will also change their appearance.
- Ice - Unlocked in Chapter 3: The Cost of Freedom. Useful to freeze enemies and objects, holding them in place, but also to create platforms from geysers.
- Lightning - To interrupt or jumpstart electric devices, or electrify multiple enemies, paralyzing them. Unlocked in Chapter 7: Canine Confusion.
- Wind - To pull objects or enemies closer. Discovered in Chapter 10: Test of Faith.
- Plasma - The last to be unlocked, in Chapter 13: Against All Odds. He can melt frozen obstacles, or burn enemies.
Linked to the Element Guns are four achievements ("Flash Freeze", "Shock and Awe", "Fan Friction" and "Lava Launcher") which are earned when the player unlocks each of the ammo types.
Records[]
Element Guns are ancient hereditary firearms passed down through generations of the Spartax monarchy. They are DNA coded to activate when anyone with royal blood wields them. Their base format allows them to fire highly destructive energy blasts, but they've also been known to quickly transform into a melee weapon when the wielder swings. Historically, each wielder has been able to generate different forms of elemental energy at will, with varying success.
Weaponsmiths across the galaxy have long marveled at the lost technology behind these weapons, but none have been able to recreate them, not even the Spartoi. The last known set of element guns disappeared, presumably on Earth.

Trivia[]
- Since their first appearance, the design of the Element Gun has changed many times, but this iteration is based upon their Quad Blasters-inspired look that first appeared in Guardians of the Galaxy #14 (2014).
