The Cotati are a species in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy. They are a race of pacifist beings[1] who live on Lamentis. One of them protects the entrance to the Caves of Lamentis. Groot can communicate with them.

The Cotati are highly intelligent plantlike beings, originally from Hala, who taught their psychic talents to a small sect of Kree pacifist priests. This angered the Kree Supreme Intelligence, who then banished the priests and ordered the Cotati's extermination. The fallen Cotati left seeds behind for the priests to gather and bring to a new world, a remote planet called Lamentis. There, the Cotati were carefully planted and nursed until their race was born anew.
The two groups founded their own sanctuarym a village they named Nok Tamal. There, the Cotati guard the secrets of Lamentis' ancient cave system as they continue to explore the full potential of their minds.
