The Guardians meet the Avalog enemy during Chapter 13: Against All Odds while exploring the icy levels of Maklu IV.

The avalog is a Makluvian predator that spends cycles asleep beneath the planet's extensive ice plains. They only come to the surface after significant meteorite fall, presumably to prey upon the traumatized surface creatures. An avalog will drag its kills back down with it, so it's common to find half-eaten carcasses below layers of solid ice.
It has four powerful tentacles for defense and locomotion and two highly-sensitive feelers capable of detecting subtle vibrations through Maklu IV's frozen lakes. As one Makluvian explorer reported, "its head is 250% teeth."
